Offline highlighting
Now that Liner is available as a mobile app, there is potential to develop it into an offline reader. In Android, Instapaper and Pocket are currently the only viable options for offline reading and annotating. But their development is poor. Instapaper has had little work and is unreliable as a renderer of web pages. Pocket introduced highlighting a while ago, but has not developed a means of export and has very poor pagination.
If Liner were to incorporate some of their functionality, it would represent powerful competition given its excellent highlighting functions.
This would require the following functions:
- Capacity to extract text and images from a web page
- Pagination by screen tap
- Offline storage
Perhaps the quickest would be a merger with Instapaper (they were bought out by Pinterest previously, but are independent again).
It would be great to see progress towards this trajectory, step by step.
